A Training Facility Built for People, Not Performance
BMPT has been helping adults in Carlisle get stronger, more confident, and more capable for over twenty years. This is the story behind the business, the team, and the belief that drives everything we do.
Who This Is For
This is not about us, It is about you
You are the person who has been thinking about this for longer than you would like to admit. The person who has watched their body change as the years go by and wondered when enough would finally be enough.
Maybe you spent decades looking after everyone else and now, for the first time, you have time that is yours. Maybe you can feel strength and energy slipping away and you want to get ahead of it before it gets worse. Maybe you walked into a commercial gym once, looked around, and walked straight back out.
If any of that sounds familiar, BMPT was built for you.
We do not coach elite athletes or people who are already fit and want to get fitter. We coach adults who are ready to invest in their health for the long term, who want guidance rather than guesswork, and who need to feel welcome before they can feel capable.
Our job is to be your guide. The progress, the strength, and the confidence? Those belong to you.

Why BMPT Exists
It started simply. It grew into something more
Josh Nicholson started BMPT over ten years ago with a straightforward belief: that coaching, sport, and seeing people succeed were worth dedicating a career to.
That belief has not changed. But the understanding behind it has deepened considerably.
In the early years, fitness was about performance, challenge, and achievement. Over time, something shifted. Josh began to see health and fitness not as goals in themselves but as investments. The kind that pay dividends in energy, independence, and quality of life for decades to come. And the kind that carry a cost if you keep putting them off.
That shift changed how BMPT coaches, who it coaches, and what success looks like. For Josh, success now means:
- Physical health that supports the life you want to live
- Emotional wellbeing and a sense of purpose
- Social connection through shared commitment
- Strength that keeps you independent as the years go on
- Being an example to the people around you
Josh still trains. Still coaches. Still cares deeply about every member's progress. But the goal now is not to get people to a number on a scale or a time on a stopwatch. It is to help them look back in five or ten years and feel proud of the daily decisions they made. Not just the intentions they had.

What We Believe
The philosophy behind the coaching
That is the principle at the heart of everything BMPT does. Our approach is built around actions, not aesthetics. Specifically around exercise, because it is the thing we can support and structure most effectively, and the thing that creates the most change across health, confidence, energy, and quality of life.
We do not promise six-pack abs in six weeks. We do not run body transformation challenges. We do not believe in shame-based motivation or extreme programming that leaves people broken and unable to walk the next day.
We believe in getting stronger consistently, stopping the extra snacks, and building habits and behaviours through regular, accountable exercise. For the vast majority of the people we work with, that is exactly what creates the results they are looking for. Not a dramatic programme. Just the right kind of consistency with the right kind of support behind it.
The Team
The people you will train with
Our coaches go beyond the norm. From your first session to your hundredth, the BMPT team knows your name, understands your goals, and genuinely cares about your progress. Coaching here is not just about sets and reps. It is about helping you build a relationship with fitness that lasts.

Josh Nicholson
Founder and Head Coach
Josh built BMPT around a simple idea: that everyone deserves coaching that meets them where they are. More than ten years on, that idea has grown into a full coaching philosophy, a team of coaches he is genuinely proud of, and a community of hundreds of members who call BMPT their second home.

Sarah
Head Coach
Sarah is the first person most new members really get to know at BMPT. As head coach, she manages the relationships that keep members thriving long term. She onboards every new member, tracks the behaviours that tell us when someone needs support, and ensures that no one goes unnoticed. If you are thinking about joining and want to know what BMPT is actually like, Sarah is who you will hear from first.

Rachel Carr
Coach
Rachel Carr is in her first year of coaching at BMPT and already has the trust and respect of the members she works with. She brings genuine energy and care to every session and plays a central role in supporting new members through their first 90 days, a period she and the wider team treat as one of the most important in any member's journey.

Rachel Goodwin
Senior Coach
Rachel Goodwin brings experience, warmth, and high coaching standards to every session she leads. She supports the whole team and contributes to the kind of environment that makes members feel comfortable and capable from their very first visit.
What BMPT Stands For
A community built on five things
Inclusive
No one should feel out of place here. Not the person who has never lifted a weight in their life. Not the person who stopped training a decade ago and is not sure what they will find when they come back. The coaching, the sessions, and the environment are all designed to make every ability level feel successful.
Empathy
We listen before we advise. We know that what brings someone through our door is rarely just a desire to get fitter. There is usually a bigger story, and we take the time to understand it.
Respect
Your time, your effort, and your trust are treated with respect at every stage. We show up prepared. We communicate directly. We hold ourselves to the same standards we hold our sessions.
Adaptability
No two members start from the same place or progress at the same pace. Our coaching adapts in real time to what each person needs, without losing the structure that makes the sessions work.
Excellence
Over twenty years of coaching experience sits behind every session at BMPT. That means well-prepared coaches, well-structured sessions, and a member experience that never cuts corners even when life gets busy.
